Make Yourself Beautiful

Acne Skincare

There will probably come a time in the not too distant future where the condition of acne (Zits) will be completely curable; however, many effective treatments are available. It is not surprising then that a great deal of money has been spent on skin care treatment development; recent medical advancements are, in fact, proving to be very effective in treating this condition. Although the number of acne skin care products and treatments might at first seem endless, they can actually be categorized into three areas:

  • Preventive
  • Over-the-Counter: Treatments for conditions that do not require prescription
  • Prescription: Issued for specialized medication from a doctor etc.

General or preventative products form part of a large skin care market, they deal with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help to stop acne. Whilst many sufferers use these products there are even more people who just want to keep their skin clean and conditioned.

More specialized cleaners are designed in the same way as acne skin care products; they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which clogs up the pores. These types of products are reducing the chance of oil staying in the pores and aiding the growth of harmful bacteria which assists the formation of the skin condition.

Other skin care treatments can help exfoliate the skin and are easily obtainable in any drug store. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores.

The growth of the skin care market has allowed even more specialized acne skin care products to be available without the need to visit the doctor. Products that can remove the pore clogging oil contain the ingredient benzoyl peroxide; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.

In case there is a reaction to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, dermatologists recommend that any product you use should be a low concentrations of no more that 5.5 parts per hundred. A good alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. You might have to try a few different creams or lotions before you find the acne skin care product that is effective for you're skin. If nothing you try seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist.

Only doctors or skin care specialists can prescribe some medications, including the use of antibiotics and certain ointments. Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist. This is something you should never attempt yourself.

Your doctor may even suggest a course of hormone therapy as a skin care treatment. Hormone changes are sometimes responsible for acne and can be very effective when used under prescription. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects. Science has produced many effective treatments for this unkind condition.
